Thailand GameChanger had a great conversation with Thamma Varangoon, a co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer at CentrovisioN. While CentrovisioN itself has been around for a while, the innovative drone business is much newer. Centrovision integrates unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), high-performance photography, photogrammetry, and multimedia technologies to provide innovative solutions to is clients and partners.
The conversation with Thamma began in a most unexpected way. After graduating from Chulalongkorn University with a degree in Political Science, Thamma spent a year traveling the world, including stints in Europe and Latin and South America. His love for movies inspired him to visit the places he had seen in pictures and exposed him to both cultures, ideas, and perspectives that can only be understood by experiencing them firsthand.
He came back from his travels energized and in 2010 CentrovisioN was approached by a company that wanted to take detailed aerial photos of a large plantation. However, 10 years ago, drones and UAV’s and even purpose-designed airplanes that could do this were not built for business purposes, but mainly for military purposes. Further, camera technology was not nearly as good as it is today at taking still images from the sky while a vehicle was in motion, and the software necessary to process these photos was also in its infancy. CentrovisioN had to come up with a solution to all of these challenges.
The process that CentrovisioN went through to solve these problems and the solutions they created over time led to a really interesting conversation. They had to design their own vehicles, software, and create bespoke software and services for their clients. Listen as Thamma explains the challenges of building this business and how clients across industries including Agriculture, Real Estate Development, Construction and Factory Maintenance continue to find innovative ways to use this technology.
